The problems concerning experimental determination of the mechanical losses appearing in immersed HTSC synchronous machines are discussed. A special model for experimental testing in different media (LN2, water, gaseous nitrogen, and air) has been designed. The friction losses during rotation of a rotor disk in LN2 are analyzed. The results of experimental determination of the rotor’s run-down time in different media are demonstrated.
